Welcome to G3NWR

We are Wirral Amateur Radio Society; a very active club that regularly meets in Wirral, North West UK. The club first started in 1936 and we now have many members, and we're growing all the time!

We run regular training courses and exams at all levels of the UK Amateur licence, participate in contests, host special event stations as well as practical and on the air evenings. Browse around our site to find out more!

New President for 2024

Please welcome our President for 2024, Mr. Alan Waddington M0WAD. Alan is a keen operator, helping the new amateur find their ways on the air. Our thanks of gratitude to John G0MHF for his support in 2023. The new year will open with a technical programme and the start of a new training programme for the licences, the foundation will start followed by the intermediate in late January. The calendar will be updated to reflect our programme. The key events in 2024, field days for the Lighthouse at Bidston, the Hoylake Lifeboat, the 150th Seabird Half Rater Regatta, HF national field day, VHF field day, SSB Field day. HPT’s Open days, June’s Radio Rally . Your support for our events will make them even better.

A special thanks goes to Neville M5AOI who served us exceptionally well as Treasurer for 24 years and has decided to hang up his abacus, passing the reigns to Phyl. Thank you Nev for your tireless efforts to keep everything in order.

Surplus Equipment Sales

Keep your eyes peeled for details about the sale of surplus equipment, as restrictions ease we will get these planned in.


Inter-Club Visit

A visit from MW0JBQ, North Wales Amateur Radio Group (NWARG) who operate the GB3OR repeater from the Great Orme is planned for 14/08/2021 - one not to miss.

SOS Radio Week 2021

In support of the RNLI’s SOS Radio Week 2021 we will be operating the special event callsign ‘GB2HLS’ throughout May. Find out more here.


RNLI Special Event

15/05/2020 - In support of the RNLI’s #Mayday campaign, this weekend we will be holding a special live ham radio broadcast using the callsign ‘GB2HLS’. Find out more here.

Construction Competition

22/01/2020 - Due to elongated proceedings at the AGM the construction competition was postponed to a later date. This is the later date so please do dig out those projects that you have been constructing.


Members Sale

20/01/2020 - This is an event for those of you that received items that you no longer need. Lots of goodies to be had!!


Our First Buddy Night

15/01/2020 will be our first Buddy Night. Those of us that have a skill in a particular discipline and those that wish to learn, in an informal “formal” way, can get together as a one to one or a group.


Intermediate Licence Course

29/01/20 - Food Night!

All members and visitors are welcome to join us for Bob's Sweet & Sour Chicken night. Start time is 19:30 with food being served at 20:00. Cost is £6 per head, and you'll receive a Sweet & Sour Chicken and Rice meal, with freshly baked mini-bread rolls and entry into a lucky-number draw. GB4BHL

We'll be operating GB4BHL on 17-18th August from Bidston Hill Lighthouse. Join the fun and watch out for photos.


05/08/19 - Club Room Expansion

Workshop & Function Room

We've been given the space behind our current club room wall. A proposed use has been to make a much better workshop. We have slowly equipping the current workshop with various items and our next item we hope to have is a fully equipped lathe. This item would be too big for this location so the additional space has come at the right time.
